Hey guys. I posted a pic. Can you tell me if this laser is powerful enough to kill the APtasia in my tank. If not then what are the minimum stats needed to kill these jerks! Thanks

I'm in the same boat. 2000mwatts I've read should do the trick. I've never one that cheap tho. Usually they are in the 2-3 hundred dollar range. I'm getting one thru survival laser.com

I have a 2000mw blue laser and it works very well. Get extra batteries though, they go through them wickedly fast.

I could...I don't use it often enough to bother. Probably get 2 or 3 killing sessions out of a charge...then it dies right in the middle of cooking a bristle worm or something :). Charger is plugged in beside the tank, quick battery swap, and carry on. I suppose if I recharged the batteries after every session I could get away with one set. But sometimes you are having so much fun, you end up zapping longer than anticipated :)

So there is no where to get a 2000mw laser for cheap?

ok as much as I want to buy immediately, what are the risks/dangers here?

Huge risk/danger of blinding yourself or others pretty much instantly if you do not wear the appropriate eye protection when operating them.
May not actually be legal where you live.
Have no idea if they are suitable for acrylic tanks if you are shooting through the acrylic.

That''s all that comes immediately to mind, but there are probably other concerns, someone may chime in, or best if you do a Google search on laser safety

I've been following, because I am interested in getting one also. They were easy to control in my smaller 29 gallon but in my 92 gallon they seem to be gaining ground. We used a smaller one that was strong enough to leave burn marks on the Rocks but did not affect the appys. I can't do peppermint shrimp because I have a coral banded shrimp nudie branches seem okay but not really sure on that route. So far what I've read it is illegal for someone to sell you a complete loser. Not sure if it is illegal to actually assemble it and know him. I might be fixing to find out. Great thread by the way

The advantage, it seems to me, over Nudy's is when the nudies have done their job they die off or you ship them out. With a laser you can pack it up and next time you buy a frag that has an appy on it you can't just zap it

So this laser kills the aptasia and the spores?

I think it just completely melts the aptasia so quickly nothing gets released (including any method of reproduction) After a few weeks of zapping an any aptasia I saw, I have none in my tank I am aware of...now I mostly use it to zap any bristle worms that dare to show their faces :)
