aiptasia maybe?

checking out my new live rock and found aiptasia in the sump.. pulled the small rock and got rid of it with boiling water. no issues. noticed this morning in my completely dark office, where the tank is,
a clear anemone like object that immediately retracted when hit with light. I've never seen it with the lights on. reminds me of aiptasia but ive never seen one immediately retract. what do you think?
I will try and get pics in the morning.

Typically if you have one aiptasia you have others, at least in my experience. Yes, see if you can get a picture and post it up.

Aiptasia It is not going to retract that quick according to your discription in my opinion.

Also, aiptasia are also photosynthetic and would not retract to light.

so it looks like aiptasia but it doesn't come out when the lights are on. has not been out all day.. turned the lights off and pops right out. is it possible it is something else? or do I have a vampire aiptasia?

no.. this is definitely not a ball anemone. its where I can see it and get to the rock easily so when I finally decide what it is.. I can work with it. Its just odd.. but then again that is one of the reasons I am in the hobby.

I've noticed aptasia can come out more at night depending on the size, like a feeding response. The larger aptasia usually have longer stalks.

well its aiptasia.. finally large enough to color up a bit to that ugly brown/tan. so boiling water to the spot later today! Will have to be careful as it is near my hitchhiker Zoas. thank goodness its a easy rock to remove and take care of.
