I bought some chaeto from my LFS roughly a month ago and had it in a bucket ever since. At the first few days, I noticed an aiptasia and threw the infected part out. I haven't seen any ever since. Is there any way for me to completely kill the aiptasia without drastically harming the chaeto or should I just throw it out?

Aiptasia fears are over blown. If you see it, manage it. Problems only show up when reefers get lazy.

Keep it simple. On chaeto, aptasia attach to strands. Simply cut the parts of strands theyre on and discard.
Other option- I do not trust peppermint shrimp but in a sump I do. Pop one in there and let it have fun

I had a few recently SNEAK into my tank and I got rid of them with Aiptasia X. I was fortunate that they were on a zoa frag and no where else but you have to be vigilant. I treated the same frag three times in a few months. I killed the ones I saw but there are always little guys lurking.

so what I'm getting at currently is to keep it, inspect for aiptasia, and throw it into sump. If aiptasia appears then peppermint shrimp in fuge.

If you have a QT tank somewhere to quarantine the chaeto then do it, watch it for a few weeks then decide if you want it or not.
That's what I would do.

You have to realize that most hobbyist wind up dealing with pests over the course of the time, those who fail are those that give up and let the pests win.

It's not the end if the world.
Good luck
