Hello lovely people, this is my first time posting. Today I saw a really tiny, like about 3cm apiptasia on my stylo frag plug, I pulled the plug out and took the stylo off and just glued that in the tank instead, but I just noticed I have a bunch of these super tiny things on my aquarium glass. Any help will be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that is algae. I have a guess as to the type but I know turbo snails readily munch on it.

what type were you thinking?

I was trying to find the name of a similar algae in my sump and I think it is a type of chaetomorpha but not like the species grown in refugiums.

Otherwise I am guessing it's some hydroid but I think you have the similar algae that I find in my tank. If it is what I'm thinking (regardless I'd I got the name right, it's not an algae to worry about

If you find aiptasia, use f aiptasia or super glue. The key is to entrap it and both of these do so. Or, you can have a peppermint shrimp (that needs to be the correct species as there are several peppermint shrimp). Aiptasia nipped when there are very few is far easier to control. I also always recommend tossing the frag plug if possible. I sometimes paint the frag plug with hydrogen peroxide if I can't remove it (or I cover it in tunze coral gum lol)

Hydrogen Peroxide does not kill any Anemone especially not Aiptasia.

thank you for the tips!
The best I have found to kill Aiptasia is a DIY of NaOH

Thats right, sodium hydroxide aka drain cleaner.

I mix up a solution of 3M NaOH and squirt it right into their mouth.

They are done.

Sodium Hydroxide is totally reef safe and is part of most Alkaliniy additives. You just need to be careful when mixing.
