SO, I have an aiptasia problem, it is nessled into zoas, slowly stinging, but not doing that much damage, I can't use berghias because there are none near me and im not spending 50$ on shipping; peppermint shrimp, I have a rfa; I don't wanna use chemicals because they are expensive and I want to do it naturally and so I can buy a new animal for my tank without just wanting it. My tank is 11.4gallon, 1 clown, 1 rfa,one monti, zoas, goni booger and ye :D

stewy14 Welcome to the Fish Disease Treatment and Diagnosis Forum!

The #fishmedic team and other knowledgeable members of our community will do our best to help you resolve your questions. Please provide as much of the following as you are able:
  • Brief description of the issue you are observing and answers to the following questions:
    • How long have you had the fish with the condition?
    • Did you quarantine with medication when you first acquired the fish? (If Yes, which medication?)
  • Current water quality measurements
  • Clear photos of the issue taken using WHITE light and/or a short video of any behaviors (post in your response or on YouTube).
If you can help us by providing as much of the above info as possible, it will make diagnosing and providing recommendations for treatment MUCH easier! The Fish Medic team will get back to you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, other members of our community may also share their experience with similar situations and advice that they may have regarding your situation.

You may also feel free to provide a more detailed description of the condition if you wish to share more info than the above list.

Tough call..
I would still use my goto, which is boiling water into a syringe, then injected into the mouth of the aiptasia. Stubborn ones need 2 shots back to back. Ofc there is a chance some collateral damage to your zoa might happen, but it won't be widespread. Trick is to make sure you catch it right in the middle of the disk, and press down so the syringe is touching the rock before you inject it. Medium force as you inject it.

I wouldn't count on peppermint shrimp for aiptasia control. There is a 50/50 chance that they will actually eat them, and not your corals or other nems. If you don't want to do other chemicals, then berghias would be your only other option. Maybe ask your LFS to order them with the next shipment they get?

Your outlook is poor. Forget about shipping costs. Other LFS offset this by charging you twice for berghia. Think like this. Would you pay 100$ to rid your tank of aiptasia and all the babies in the nooks and cracks of your tank ?

4x16.99 = 67.96
Sh = 38.65 to NJ
Total = 106.61
Divide by 4 = 26$ per berghia

Need 4 as a minimum recommended tk make a colony and eggs for future berghia

I have 14 in my system right now they are eradicating my aiptasia almost 24x7

Okay
But aren’t u just buying a 1 time get out of jail free card? They eat them all in 3 weeks, in 1 week they die of starvation, then 4 weeks later, aiptasia back and you gotta respend 100?

I added 14 around the beginning of January. I have more berghia than ever if anything. I see small baby ones, mediums, and big ones.

Eventually they may all die off, after all aiptasia are eradicated. But if you are introducing Corals or broadcast feeding, you will get more aiptasia and eventually your colony will reduce to the amount needed to maintain the tank.

They are also in high demand. Rehoming/selling shouldn’t be a problem.

All credits go to @ralquist for sharing this link with me. They are 10 bucks each. I don't know how reputable they are, but that price is crazy low.

Aptasia X is something Ive seen in my LFS that they recommend to people. Never used it myself so maybe someone here can say if it works or not? Maybe an option and not expensive

I use it in a pinch and about 75% it works fine. The trick is getting them to ingest it and not close up before it’s in the mouth

Turned on my lights, and see these berghia all over the place. They definitely survive, and work round the clock to eat aiptasia. They can get in the tiniest openings. I found one inside my overflow yesterday eating aiptasia, and I didn’t think the berghia would find their way in, but they did
