Hot water

i've heard hot water will do the trick as well..
Oh, I tried that, with hot water, it definitely kill aiptasia, and everything else around it. I had really nice purple rock that I got from Pruess for $10.00 per pound. First, all purple color changed to orange then completely discolored. An addition to that I had an ammonia spike, I assume because of die offs. I am glad I just tried on only one little rock and not all of them.

Just my experience. If you had better luck with hot water please share, would love to hear it.

Garth, I got a bunch of the rock from the store with mojano's on it, and have also had my own aptasia outbreaks. I've controlled it in my nano with peppermints, but by far the most cost effective method i have tried is joe's juice. It cost the same as 1 peppermint shrimp at the store and will work effectively. As for your display I would recommend 6-10. These will keep any baby aptasia from ever appearing, and you know the ones we have are very used to eating aptasia.

ITA, I have used the hot water method also, But I just fill a syringe with it, pull the rock out of the water and give it a quick squirt. I get die-off about the size of a quarter or half dollar, and works 100% of the time.

ive had bad experience using the kalk paste but it was my fault
some of the paste touched the stalk of some zoanthids and the zoanthids that it touched died off

Aptasia x and joes juice seem to be the same thing. They both apply the same way and look the same, but joes juice is cheaper. I've also used both in the store, and seem equally as effective.
The absolute best to me is elimi-aiptas from tropic marin.

I think most all develop a taste for aptasia. I usually get a shipment of 50 and split them 2 to a tank, and have never really had any bums. Biggest thing to me is to take out the large aptasias first chemically. I find that most peppermints won't touch the bigger aptasias, but will eat the smaller ones without a second thought.
