So after being so cautious with livestock purchases, starting with dry rock, and dipping and inspecting all corals, my tank finally has aiptasia. I’ve only found one head and it’s in the sand bed. I’m wondering if I should just take a small cup and reach in and scoop out a little of the sand along with the aiptasia. Any suggestions?

Let's see a pic to confirm before you scoop and toss

It may be attached to the glass just under the sand .I would try to scoop and toss.

Got it out pretty clean. Have to keep an eye out for anymore maybe purchase a peppermint shrimp if it gets that bad. Thanks for the quick replies. Now to figure out how it got in there :(

It is all part of the hobby unfortunately. I have seen them show up on tanks with no corals whatsoever from BRS pukani that was given a muratic acid bath...
I would say they just evolve, some get them and some don't....

I wonder if the come in as spores with fish and inserts.

My only guess is it came in on some macro algae I got. The lfs had it growing in a seperate tank and I specifically asked if they were separate systems. Should have been smart enough to walk away. Let that be a lesson.

Don't worry. I have designer aiptasia. I can send you a frag.

I think every tank gets them from time to time.
