Aiptasia Serial Killer

Yesterday morning I spotted an Aiptasia Nem between one my zoa rocks. I was thinking **** I need to take care of this when I get back from work. So when i got back from work I find both of my Clowns dead in between rocks smh. I felt like crap all night. One of those times where I could of taken care of the problem but I didnt. Sucks! i need to buy some Aiptasia Eaters! Whats your method?

I would try a peppermint shrimp but that's just me. There is other methods like aiptasia-x, joe's juice, kalk paste, berghia nudibranchs (only eat aiptasia but need a new home and food source lined up for when they are done with the job) and even a laser but that's kind of expensive. These are to just name a few methods but def catch it as early as possible. I know when I had my outbreak of them I tried stuff like aiptasia-x and joe's juice and the like and the aiptasia would come back like ten fold and the problem was even worse. But if it were me I would try a peppermint shrimp or a few of them. Relatively cheap and should do the trick. Not sure what corals you have in the tank but they may or may not be compatible with some corals.

haha I know exactly how you feel but at least you are catching it early. I'm sure others will chime in on what they have used in the past or what they would recommend. Trust me there are plenty of opinions on this topic on what works and what doesn't. I think your corals will be okay imo. I know I've read on some threads before that people have had problems with them attacking their corals. But in this case maybe use the shrimp to kill the aiptasia and then return it or give it to a friend that might want it maybe. I just know I never had luck with and of the liquids formulated to kill aiptasia and I was sure to follow the directions completely and I never tried kalk paste but have heard people be successful using it. I just know I have read a lot of the peppermint shrimps devouring aiptasia. Included a lil video for ya for some evidence.

whoa! ok i gotta get me some. So out of all the liquid products. These guys worked for your tank as well?

I didn't have any luck with liquids, for me the peppermint shrimp was the best option for my tank and they worked. I wanted to get the berghia nudibranch because they strictly eat aiptasia and I figured they would knock out my aiptasia problem in my 90 gallon in no time BUT the cost for them was much much more than getting the peppermint shrimp, plus shipping, and more over would be finding a home/food source after my tank so I didn't end up killing them after my tank was eradicated.

Are you sure the aiptasia killed them? They certainly aren't good but I don't think they are much of a fish killer. In my old maintaince job I had to treat tanks over run with aiptaisa and all the fish were fine.

Reefftown.com has them. I got some from them. But I didn't order enough I think my peppermint shrimp ate them. I ordered the tank bred aiptasia eating peppermint shrimp from liveaquaria and they were smaller than my aiptasia then I ordered (not enough and too small) Berghia nudibranchs I should have just ordered 10 medium Berghia and been done with it. I used joes juice about a week ago. It worked on all of them. So far I have seen a few new ones tho. I just keep feeding them joes juice. The big one was hosting my sexy anemone shrimp, that one lost most it's tentacles but I didn't get enough juice to glue him up, so he spit out some spores. I know the peppermint shrimp are doing well as I have seen their molts floating a couple times since I got them a month ago. I never see the Berghia anymore and have only seen the peppermint shrimp once. They do have a lot of space to hide as well as I'm sure there are aiptasia where I cannot see so maybe they're tag teaming the aiptasia. Sorry that is probably a useless post but I'm not erasing it. It took too long to type

Yea your probably right. I just want to find the best methods of getting rid of it. It was just a coincidence my clowns expire when i spot the aiptasia.

You should probably figure out why they died. And if you don't have anything that is going to eat the Berghia I would just start with them. Make sure you get the correct amount. Plan on spending at least $100. And then it will still take them at least a month, depends on how many you have.

Copperband worked for me. Got some rock from a friend that was completed covered and my CBB cleared that up within a few days.
