Great fish to have in your reef. You can get some very small if you look for them at LFS.

They usually feed off feather dusters, worms, and aiptasia primarily and people have issues getting them to accept frozen food.
However, I've had good success getting them on mysis and clams on the half shell.

In my tank, I kept a previously bad infestation totally under control with a chelmon marginalis that I got from Live Aquaria:

It just takes time, but done this on many, many tanks.
First, add one pep. He will take of the small ones where you can see.
Secondly, (this is where patience comes in) each time you see them, even one, turn off flow, place a ball of aptasia-x in the Centre and hold, he will collapse.
I did this weekly, it took 6 months, but I am happy to say I have not seen one in a year now.

Aptasia are a part of 95% of our systems. You just need to manage it. First, get yourself some aptasia X and epoxy. Inject the aptasia and then hurry up and epoxy him into his hole so the aptasia X can sit in. Dont worry as you will be able to remove the epoxy in a week. After you get all the big ones down buy some peppermint shrimp and they will munch down all the babies that come about. They are pretty interesting as well. You can do the nudibranchs but A- they are stupid expensive B- they are super tiny and take quite a long time to take hold and get to work and C- they will die off and I guarantee you that you will have more aptasia after they are gone.

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT START OVER! like I said.... they are unavoidable. You will always have to deal with them regardless of if you start over now.

Unless you are OCD careful with what and how you put stuff in your tank you WILL get it.

You may get them even if you are OCD careful. Everything in my current tank sat in quarantine for 76+ days under close observation. And yet, aiptasia.

The CBB I got did not touch one in my tank, but loved to feed with the rest.
The filefish did work but damaged some real expensive LPS, so returned.

Same. I got a Filefish that nipped, took it back. Got another. Nipped, took it back. Got another And the third was a winner. He eats Aiptasia and hasn’t touched anything else.

You have to be persistent and find the right Aiptasia eaters to manage the numbers or it’ll get exponentially worse. But once you find the right ones, the infestation is really no longer an issue.

And for future readers of this thread, stay far away from Aiptasia-X. That stuff should be pulled from the market. It’ll turn your 20 Aiptasia into 200 in a week.

i was the BRS they were suggesting so many things you can do, at the end they were you cannot kill them they always comes back. only way you can kill them is bleach the system, make sure you have a QT when you buy corals,

what said about this, i had a velvet and ick in my tank, now i end up with ick i put the fish in the QT NOT sure what the best way i can take this, bleach the system and start over or let it be

Really NOT what BRS video said! Watch the video. There is hope - you can eradicate Aptasia IF you act before they are everywhere. Work your way through it.

+1 on Copperband butterfly. Been keeping my tank under control from Aiptasia. I had them and then CBB ate them all and now I visibly cannot see them. CBB keeps my cleaning crew in check too, picks on the Bristleworms which too many can be a pain too so I’m happy with my CBB.

Interesting.....30+ years using Aptasia-x, never once did even one come back.

Also what I find is that since I stopped over feeding my tanks, the inhabitants actually do the work that they should do when they don’t get spoon fed as much. When they are hungry the look for food. CBBs are hunting for Aiptasia, tangs are keeping the algae in check, wrasses are hunting for the things that they should be doing. Just my thoughts.
