ok, i have several questions

will zoas close up due to lack of flow?

will zoas close due to air fresheners in the air. my roommate insists on putting one of those air wick thingies that shoot puffs of freshener every few seconds, and it's kinda near the tank. i have a colony of zoas that just refuse to open lately, i did an iodine dip and i can see the very tips of their skirts peeking out, but nothing more. an adjacent colony is doing just fine.?


lastly, i recent got a frag of mohawks and all but one polyp has opened, are there any care requirements for mohawks? i received the frag 2 days ago.

if the airfreshener particles are getting into your tank, then you've got problems. i don't see why an airfreshener, when it's not spraying in or around the tank, would be bad, though.

sometimes zoa's can be finicky, and won't open for a couple days. i got a frag of people eaters from another reefer, and they did not open for 3 weeks afterward. just keep an eye on them. if they don't appear to be shrinking, melting or withering, they should open back up. if you want good growth, though, get them some good flow.

My Mohawks are in pretty good flow. They sway in the current. Most Zoas do well if the current moves them gently. Mohawks love to eat. Mine love target feeding.

Sorry as for the air freshener I would move it to the other side of the room at least. I smoke. A lot! I often joke that my tank does so weel because of the chemicals in the smoke so I don't think the air freshener would have to much effect.

i think if the freshener is not directed at the tank, and there is at least 4-5 feet between the two, the larger droplets would have time to fall out before they made it to the tank.

just DON'T let your roomate use windex to clean the tank glass!! :haha:
