Air pump with an external draw...

I have a 28 Gal nano, and I would like to run an air stone in it from an air pump that can draw air from outside my home, while being inside of course.... It's an effort to keep pH up. Any suggestions?!?

A Tom Aqualifter could do that...or probably any diaphram pump. It won't be very quiet on the intake side, so be prepared to experiment a bit!

I saw those, but thought they would not work for just air, or pump enough... I'll look at them harder thanks!

All I know is that they will pump air....they basically ARE an air pump that has the inlet fixed to a tubing adapter instead of being open or just being covered with a felt filter-pad on the bottom of the air pump.

You will have to experiment for sure, unless you can find someone who's literally done what you are trying. No idea how deep they will be able to pump.

There are also other diaphragm pumps out there.

That's all I've used, but I know Avast Marine puts one out that's got a stronger flow rating. You might just write to them and ask about your use-case.

There are industrial ones for DIY too.

Google or search on eBay (etc) for "diaphragm pump" or "aquarium diaphragm pump"

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I just searching last night for an in-line air pump but couldn't really find anything. I think I'm just going to toss the quietest regular air pump I can find in the bottom of a container and throw a bunch of BRS CO2 absorbent on top of it. I have an aqualifter sitting unused under my tank so I may experiment with that a bit also. I didn't know they could be used as an air pump.

It would actually be pretty easy to make a DIY version that could pull clean air from outside using any air pump now that I think about it. I'll try to post a picture if I can get around to making one today.

This what I ended up doing. I went with that tiny air pump because it's dead silent and I had one laying around. I'll attach a a 1/4 inch airline to the bulkhead coming from the sir pump and run that to my air stone. I'll run a 1/2 inch tube to the other bulkhead and run that line outside.

What's your pH?

It depends, we entertain quite a bit and because of that and the efficiency of our home, it can drop as low as 7.7. It's tough to open the windows, the rest of my family has a horrible time with seasonal allergies. I have been able to consistently maintain 8.1-8.3 when I can keep the windows open.
