Hello,
4 months ago i purchased the innovative marine 25 lagoon. Throughout my years in the hobby i have never kept a nano tank. So far the tank has been doing very well. Now i have always ran skimmers on all my setups except this one although ive been wanting to since day one. I have come to find out that its not so easy to find the right skimmer for the dimentions of the IM25 specifically. So the question is, do the airstone skimmers actually work according to the manufacturer i.e the coralife biocube air driven skimmer rated for 25 gallons?. Will it actually remove just as much as, say the reef octopus ns 80 also rated for 25 gallons??

Thank you

I would go for the Reef Octopus NS80 if possible. I used the CoraLife airstone skimmer for a while and, with some modification, got it to skim well. The problem with the skimmer is consistency, it works great on day #1 but over the course of a month or two performance will only drop until the airstone is changed. Here's mine with some cut PVC and plumber's tape to give it more contact time.

Nice. Looks like youre getting good skimate. What size tank are you running it on?

It's a BioCube 29 but i've since upgraded to a Tunze 9001. With that modification though, it would be a great skimmer for a QT or holding tank. Get something with more consistent performance for the display tank though IMO.

Mame skimmers have been around since like forever. Tried an true they work wonderfully. Just make sure to keep 2-3 extra "wooden" airstones handy in case of clogging. Here's the one I ran on my 26g.

Nice, i'm interested in this now. My Tunze 9001 is the most picky skimmer i've ever used and i'm thinking about trying something different. I'm not a fan of the airstone aspect, however, this would open up chamber #2 in my BioCube for other things like the InTank refugium. How was skimming consistency on these? Any complaints?

Like all skimmers their functionality is dependent on the amount of DOC.
I used my first Mame skimmer back in the early 80's. Not one complaint. They're the perfect answer for the smaller AIO tanks or sumpless tanks. They come in many sizes. If you look em up on YouTube you'll find plenty of DIY's, they are that popular.

Here's a DIY that's rocking the Mame concept!

That foam is so thick. Impressive
