Been wanting to get back into airbrushing models and of course I stopped before getting into reefing and I've been wondering how the paint particulates might affect my reef tank.

I have a diy paint booth and are about to install a carbon filter to it just in case. Anyone else out there have this same concern/ problem?

I mostly use acrylics but have been eyeing lacquer paints and enamels. Acrylics should in theory be okay but the others... im not so sure on.

I actually had this same problem, I do a lot of scale models. I use Vallejo air which is all water based however even with well ventilated areas the fumes still make it into the air. It’s safe to assume anything in the air will go into your tank somehow, you’d probably be fine, but I never airbrush in the same room around my tank.

All jokes aside, I’m super paranoid about anything in the air. All aerosol sprays for cleaning are sprayed on a towel in a separate room before cleaning, dusting, etc... Glass cleaner used in the house is ammonia free also. Wife thinks I’m crazy. When I have the house sprayed for bugs, I never let them spray in the same room with the tank. I’ll even unplug the skimmer for a few hours before turning it back on. I have painted in the house with no issues. But that was with behr marquee. It has very low vocs and is approved for painting around nurseries and such. Something lacquer based might not be good. Idk. If you can smell it, it definitely has the potential to be in the water. Especially running a skimmer. You could always run an airline from your skimmer outside. I’ve never had any issues burning things like candles in the same room as the tank. I personally wouldn’t chance it. I’m sure others will chime in.
