Akalinityl questions

Since you are administering via ato, another factor could be evaporation rate. Has the humidity or ambient temp in hour house changed? Less ato water means less kalk.

I still been going thru about 10gallons a week top off. Temp in tank stays at 78 pretty much all day

My 120g alk would drop 1.5dkh a day. I think I was dosing 6oz of alk a day. Just installed a calcium reactor. I have a little more sps than you. I think it's time to take it to the next level. Kalk isn't cutting it. Things go bad quick when alk is off. Also what test kit are you using? Make sure its a good one and not expired. Beautiful tank.

Thanks for kind words...OH-O Im going to next level:peace:..

Been waiting for this ,I thought one day i would have to get a calcium reactor or do the 2 part

I actually charting 3 different alk kits,
I have the Newbie style API, red sea kit and just got the Hanna checker for alk

At least im in the right direction with what i need to get and i better hurry ,I dont wanna loose anymore my frags

If you can afford it, skip the 2 part and go straight to a calcium reactor. You'll need it in the future for sure. If not, manually dose, but it will get old fast.

okay heres what i got right now,

I have a 1.1 dosing pump with a batch of calcium made up just in case i need it but right now im using it to dose Alk or the baking soda solution, SO a calcium reactor will help keep the Alk up. Im confused,I thought it just keeps the calcium up..

Well i m reading up on a reactor,If it saves me time not having to mix jugs of solution up then Im going to get one

Yea, i agree with a calcium reactor. You have a pretty high demand of corals in those tanks. You can temp dose to get it where you need it.

Calcium reactor basically melts old coral skeletons to replenish what your tank consumes. It will replace ca. Alk mag. And whatever the old corals used to grow. You'll get more than just ca. And alk. Plus you may not have to replace the media or co2 for 6 months to a year. It doesn't really raise your numbers. More keep it the same. You'll need to dose it to your target numbers and it will keep it there. Obviously if you get crazy and not set it properly, it will get messed up. You'll have to adjust once things take off or if you add a lot of corals. Same as with dosing.

Costs a lot more to setup but way cheaper in the long run. Plus no mixing.

I went with a GEO cr618 reactor and the regulator from aquariumplants.com. Its controlled by an Apex. There are cheaper options.

Well im going to go ahead and get one,I dont have a controller though I know i need one of them too so will 1k buy everything i need

I am also having problems getting my alk. up past 6.7 even when dosing Redsea foundation b. I spoke with a scientist with Redsea and he had me putting in 40ml a day but it is not coming up. My ca. is 425 and mag. is at 1400. This is getting expensive and i am going to switch to baking soda. I have lots of flow breaking the water at the top and i have been opening windows to air out the house. Just at a loss i don't know what to do.

Flow on the top and windows open helps the pH. Don't think it affects the alk. Basically you need to test. Wait 24hrs. Test again See how much it dropped. That's your daily consumption. Use the brs calculator to see how much you need to dose daily. Not sure about the baking soda. I use soda ash and Rodi. Pretty cheap off eBay.

For calcium I use calcium carbonate, I think. Also off eBay. Cheap.

I use Redsea pro and after a water change it will raise to about 7dkh. I just feel as though 40ml a day of buffer is excessive.
