I recently had an outbreak out of GHA and have been trying to decide between a UV sterilizer or a diy algae scrubber. I found a Jabeo 55w on Amazon and purchased it. My question is my system is about 225ga and I know a 55w sterilizer is not enough for that size tank. Can both be run or will the sterilizer null and void any algae for the scrubber?

They do two different things. The UV sterilizer kills bacteria and free floating algae. An algae scrubber grows algae by absorbing nutrients, mainly nitrate and phosphate.

UV sterilizer could not cure GHA. I bought a 30W UV for my 70G tank, and is useless. Algae scrubber works fine.
