Hello has anyone used this medication to treat internal parasites in marine fish? I cannot find praziquintal where I am at. I should say I have found it but it has mebendazol, pyrantel and some sort of filler. Figure the albendazole may be a better option but can’t find anything about it being used for fish on the inter webs

Where are you from? Metro and prazi would be best. Can be dosed into the water in a QT tank or bound using Seachem's focus and some frozen food.

I’m in Costa Rica. I can get metro but cannot find praziquantel except for wormer mess for dogs that have other ingredients.

Metro may work on its own. Best to add it to focus and feed it, instead of in the water collum.

Is metro effective against flukes?

No.

No.

THATs what I thought. How about the albendazole do you know anything about this med?

I’ve never heard of albendazole for marine fish so I’d advise against it. @Humblefish

Some public aquariums used to use albendazole to deworm sharks & rays. However, we've since discovered that fenbendazole is a better choice. And works on all marine fish.

No better info from me. Lol the wizard is here! :)

I'm not much help BUT as a food animal veterinarian I can say that Albendazole and Fenbendazole are generally considered analogs or tend to preform similarly. So if you have a problem that Fenbendazole will fix, Albendazole is generally considered a good alternative. I make NO statement as to how either product would work applied directly to water as we apply it orally. Not much help in your situation, sorry.

Fenbendazole will turn the water milky, but it usually clears after a day or so.

Wow lots of great feedback. Thank you! I found some prazipro in a random veterinaria. Anyone have ideas on soaking food to treat internal parasites? Works specifically. Already been through a round of metro.

Using a shot glass:

1 scoop (~ 1/8 teaspoon) of medication
1 scoop Seachem Focus (this makes it reef safe)
1 Tbsp food (preferably pellets or frozen food)
A pinch of Epsom salt to help expel dead worms/parasites
A few drops of saltwater or fish vitamins
Stir until a medicated food slurry has been achieved.
Feed after soaking for 30 mins.
Refrigerate or freeze any leftovers for future use.
You can feed this mix 1-2 times per day. Not recommend to exceed 2 feedings per day with medicated food.

This is for feeding the prazipro?
