Alberta's Reefer 525xl

Tank is 4.5 months old. Ugly stage for the last few weeks. I have noticed with the bare bottom the tank seems to be progressing much slower than my last tank. I have a few tester corals in there now that are doing well. I dont plan on adding any more till the tank settles in.
I am really struggling with fish this go around. I still do not have any fish in the main tank. I have been using copper sulphate in the QT tank as you can no longer buy fish medications in Alberta. I believe one of the fish I added had Marine Velvet and now its in my QT and I cant seem to cure the remaining fish of it even raising the copper level to .50ppm

Alberta, can you please post pictures on how you set your Clarisea up? I am interested in installing one in mine.

So basically the hardest part is cutting out the filter sock holder. I used a utility knife and sliced away. The factory drain fits into the clarisea perfectly so I just cut it about 5" from the bottom and picked up some pipe from home depot and elbows to direct the drain to where I mounted the clarisea. I had to wrap the factory drain with Teflon tape to get a snug fit into the home depot fittings. If you has access to metric fittings use those.
I then had to make a stand to get the clarisea to sit at the right hight. I used egg crate and pvc pipe and fittings

That looks real good. I would have to agree the hardest thing is cutting on the sock section.

If you go with the sk3000 you will be able to use the hooks. The sk5000 there is not enough room to set it up with the brackets

So overall, really all you had to do was cut the filter sock holder out?

I appreciate you taking the time to get all this for me. The owners of my LFS and I have been working on this for a few weeks trying to find someone that has successfully put an SK5000 in their 525.

Do you have the v3 sump?

yup!

What size ID is the PVC you used? Also, is it removable enough to clean and replace the rolls?
I cant remember the size of the pipe. However I would recomend getting metric pipe and fittings that match the red sea drain. I can remove the whole assembly in seconds but there is enough room to change the rolls with out removing it.

Dont you have to run the new filter paper down and through it? You can do it without removing?

It looks like the drain pipe from the overflow is 20mm, which is roughly 3/4 of an inch, and the inlet into the Clarisea is 1 inch. Is that why you put the teflon tape?

When the roll gets low you just staple the new roll to the old roll and roll it through till it comes out the top. Then cut it. Remove old roll and away you go

I see! My LFS ordered my Clarisea, and my Plumbing should be here tomorrow from BRS!
