Algae attacking fish?!?

Hello weird question but can algae actively predate on fish? I found my goby dead in his favorite place to sleep, wrapped up in a weird algae. The algae is basically clear but attaches itself to the sand so if I were to grab the sand a big clump of sand would come with it. I have no clue what it is or why my goby had half of its body wrapped up in the algae-sand mix. I would provide pictures but you can't really see it anyways. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think this is algae, but no clue what it could be either. Algae didnt eat your goby.

I had some weird greyish translucent algae looking stuff growing in my tank a while back. Got thick too. My cerith ate some of it a few times but never finished it off. I cleaned out as much as I could. It grew in a corner where flow was almost nil. I got more current sense then and died back and never returned. Does yours grow in a dead flow spot?

Sounds more like a bacterial mucus feasting on the carcass that showed up once it died.
