Noticed this has been in my tank for a while and it seems to be getting worse since I stopped dosing phyto. Any idea what it is? Looks kind of matted .

Looks like chrysophytes and you need to pull rock and physically scrub it off. Toothbrush and peroxide will work wonders.. increase water flow thereafter and monitor your nitrate and ph levels following 3-4 weeks

What is typically the cause of it?
In many cases, some Chrysophytes use silica to form their structures, but can also be from elevated Phosphate and even nitrate.
Adding chemipure blue to sump will help with Phos/nitrates and keep them in check

Good to know! I always thought I was having trouble getting my nitrates and phosphates up but the Chrysophytes must be consuming it as I dose it
