Alright so i need some advice to get rid of algae in my tank. I have a red sea reefer 525xl. i am running a reef octopus 200 INT elite and a skimz algae reactor. I top off with RO DI water. I do a 15% water change every week. I use Probiotic Reef salt. I also Dose the Components by aqua forest. My water pramaters are as fallows
Salinity: 35ppt
PH: 8.2
NO3 0
Phosphate .01
Ca 400
mg 1200

I am currently scrubbing corals and rock daily with a tooth brush.

Ahh the tooth brush, I know the algae struggles too well. You can get a snail CUC they do a great job or an algae blenny. You would need suficent algae to keep him alive after the problem dies down.

Right so i have a Scopus tang and a lettuces nutiabrach, as well as trouchs snails and some turbans

What kind of snails cause I have hair algae in my frag tank but not in my display. So I move frags over & have my tang clean it up, but it comes back within a week.

yes they have cleaned off the back glass. but its on my rocks and its driving me mad. its also on some of my higher end zoanthids and starting to choke them out

Hi, do you know what type of algae you are battling as different types might need a different approach also as there's no photo are you sure that it's an algae outbreak and not something like dinos as I had a huge dino outbreak recently which coincided with the use of a probiotic salt.

My astrea snails don’t touch the hair algae in my FT but my hermit crab does a good job.

step away from the tank and put your hands behind your head!
: ) seriously tho have you tried maybe doing nothing? it mite seem a silly thing to say but stop doing w/c for a month and keep your limbs out of the water... if your dosing major elements and keeping all in check you should suffer no ill effects from just leaving it be for a month 6 weeks..
I was doing religious wc weekly and constantly plucking and stirring and you no what... when i was to busy my tank looked better after a few weeks. i now do less and benefit from it.
Just my experience of algae and h.i.t.s. : )

Lol. I thought I was the only one that used hits.

Good advice there.

If this were a garden. Youd pull weeds. If it were a dog, you have worms and fleas.
By enjoying your gardening and pulling weeds you make the garden grow better in the long term.

By battling , you just get angry. (That's what golf is for). If you weed the garden and like it you'll win. You just will.
