Anyone know the effectiveness of using a black out to kill algae, specifically turf algae? Not your typical 3 day black out, but a 1-2 month long blackout. Would this work to kill the algae for good without having it come back?

it would die, but probably come back unless the underlying issues that caused it were fixed. If you have corals they will die, and it may stress out your fish.

As long as I have some availability of PO4, turf algae will grow. This has been my experience. The problem is Dinos thrive in this area. I would like to get to a point were I can elevate PO4 and NO3 and only have to worry about GHA.

Manual removal (if possible) and "deep eating" CUC (Urchins, Pithos, Emeralds, Chitons) would help IMO. The turf algae would prob just come back after the blackout without taking steps like this.

That’s kind of what I figured as well. Thanks.

Will always come back. Nutrients and water temp is what encourages it
