hello! I was shipped an almost completely dead cleanup crew and it created a bacteria bloom in my newer tank. (Heat pack shipped mid summer seems like a boneheaded move to me)

Should I let it ride. Or would dosing microbacter help or hurt it? Thanks!!!

Any fish in the tank? Any ammonia present? I would recommend dosing some fresh saltwater!

Yea there are fish. No ammonia present. Its been going for about 24-48 hours now. Zero ammonia. Zero nitrite. 10ppm nitrate. Salinity 1.025. Phosphate. 06, ca/alk/mg all in line. Parameters all good. Just looks gross. Heh.

Also I pulled out all the dead stuff I could but some I just can't get too. But I'm sure my hermits will make quick work of them. They are already walking around in shiny new snail shells. Lol

I've been using vibrant. Great if you have a skimmer but be careful if you have macro algea for nutrient export, it will kill cheato and make your nitrates rocket.

Yeah. Trying to avoid adding any additives if I can. (Other than microbacter or seed) I already had to replace my refugium plants again. Don't want to a third time heh.

Are you certain they're all dead? Snails can go dormant for up to 3 days after shipping...

More or less just curious if adding bacteria like microbacter and or seed or stability would just add to the bloom. Or if it would help.

Microbacter is a great product imo. I would use it in this instance, but that is my opinion. It has gotten me through some blooms and helped the beneficial bacteria restore balance.

Skimmer. It will help to remove the extra bacteria

Usually if i am treating with microbacter i turn the skimmer off as per the instructions so that the benefitial bacteria can take hold. I would hope that the original poster is skimming to help address the issue of snail loss when not treating.

Yeah. The skimmer is for sure going heh. Thanks for the vote of confidence to add microbacter. Just wasn't sure if it would just add to the bloom. Just double checked all parameters and everything in line. Just going to add some and ride it out. Fish all seem happy and unbothered.

I personally have not had any negative effects with MB. I fist used it after battling dinos which lead to other blooms. It stabilized everything within a couple of weeks and i have used it since any time i see a touch of cyano or anything else. It seems to out compete and clear things up when used as directed. Let us know how it goes!
