ok. I think I need to pick your brains. I have a 150ga tank that is about 2 years old which has essentially been a FOWLR tank while I have been waiting for it to stabilize. I recently put in some zoanthids, montipora and frogspawn which have been doing well and I couldn’t turn down a recent sps live sale. So now I have about 8 frags of SPS.
I still have a bit of a problem with GHA and now have some brown cyano. I have read that nitrates shouldn’t be zero for sps health and my tank is reading zero right now. I suspect that the algae (and my Chaeto in the refugium) is sucking up the nitrates.
Tank parameters:
150ga (including sump and fuge)
Alk: 9.1
Ca:450
Mg:1250
Nitrates/phosphates:0
pH:8.3-8.4
I feed once a day frozen mysis and brine shrimp and have about 12 fish about 2-3”.
Not much of a CUC which I am planning on improving (maybe someone could recommend a good thread for that).
