There is a little hair algae that seems to be bothering my acan. It is extending sweepers at night, but seems to shruken due to the algae. I was considering either placing a astrea near it as they seen to clean it often or use a q tip underwater to quickly clear the algae

I just did a dip with zoas yesterday. Dipped for about 1.5 min and got most of it. Waiting for lights to come up to see how it did. How often can you dip them if the algae doesn't die? I followed Billy Pipes recommendation 3% H2O2 at 100% for 2 min max. We'll see how they do. Also had to remove an Acan from the DT but was afraid to fully submerge so just used a syringe and sprayed around the base and remounted. Hope that works too. Lights will tell the tale

You can certainly spot apply it with a dropper or swab. It may take a day or two for the algae to die off. I haven't seen any long term negative effects. Are you using 3% straight from the bottle? I usually do 3% H2O2 then make a dip of 25% peroxide and 75% tank water.

I was really afraid to dip because i had a very nice rainbow acan, i used 50/50 and the algae is now gone. The acan will really bubble up. I remember when my zoas had something growing on them i dipped in iodine and h202. im pretty sure zoas are pretty resiliant. I did it every other day twice. 2 dips and everything was fine. At 2:20 the guy dipps a acan

Yes I did it just as Billy Pipes did with zoas, full 3% for > 2mins. I was really afraid with the Acan though, although he did one of them too, so I just put some on the algae around the base for a minute or so, rinsed and put back in tank. We'll see how the zoas do. When I originally saw this I tried it with a Leptastrea and the results weren't good so I haven't tried it again until now.

This is how it looks after lights came on... still not happy. How long will it take for the rest to die or should I dip tomorrow?
Note: I couldn't see them yesterday for all the hair algae, so that's a bonus. This was a mixed cluster of Nirvanas and an unknown that had grown together on the rocks. May split off the Nirvanas and trade them to the LFS. Man they grow like weeds, and had to put them on their own rock so they didn't take over.

I would maybe try a turkey baster and see if you can “spray off some of the algae and remove it mechanically at this point. You can always re dipp with the diluted solution In a few days.
