The tank has been up and running since March 28th, 2018 and has had livestock in it since April 28th, 2018. I am starting to get some algae which I am getting concerned about. I want to get after the algae before its too late. Every night the glass has to be cleaned and the gyres and the back wall have hair beginning to grow. I also noticed small tufts of hair algae on the new rock in some areas.
My params as of last night:
Salinity 35ppt
Temp 77.7
Ammonia and Nitrite are undetectable since April 28th.
Nitrate (API) reads consistently 0 -Recently ordered a Salifert Nitrate test kit
Phosphate (Salifert) reads 0 – Recently ordered a Hanna Phosphorus Checker
Alk is 7.952 (Hanna)
Calc is 470 (Salifert)
Mag is 1350 (Salifert)
When I added the live stock I added ¾ of a cup of Phosban GFO to a reactor (total system volume is 220 gallons). I added Chaeto with a 12 hour photo period. I turn the Chaeto by hand every to every other day. I had a awc schedule of 1 gallon every day. I recently upgraded that to 1.25 gallons twice a day. I am running the protein skimmer 24/7. (SRO 3000 SSS)
I feed fairly heavy. I feed frozen/fresh food once a day (approximately 2 cubes) and I have an auto feeder feeding the smallest amount of pellets (small pinch) in the sump at the return pump 2x a day. I add a sheet of nori every 2-3 days. My once a day fresh food feeding is a frozen mysis, frozen blood worms, or live black worms.
Yesterday I removed the auto feeder and I am cutting all other foods additions in half. (1 cube/day fresh, 1/2 sheet nori every 2 days) I removed half the chaeto as it had grown to the full size of the 25 gallon sump. (Filled a 3 gallon bucket packed down!)
What should I do next?
1. Add to the clean up crew. Current clean up crew is basically non-existent thanks to blue leg hermits. (They will be removed if i go this route)
2. Jump the gun on the next fish addition of a White Tail Bristletooth tang and Purple Tang.
3. Replace the Gfo with 1 ½ cups.
4. Do nothing and just wait for the increased AWC, reduction of feeding, and reduction in chaeto to take over.
