Algae? Dinoflagellates? Something of the like?

Hey guys I just recently finished my nitrate cycle and I've read where there is usually an "algae cycle" afterwords. But when I did some searching on these forms I read that this might also be Dino. Could you guys help me ID and the steps of removal.

Welcome to R2R! Usually the nitrate cycle is followed by some green and often green hair algae. Can't tell from the pictures, are you seeing lots of little bubbles on the algae? Something like this:

There is defiantly bubbles with the algae, I can't tell if its snagging the bubbles or creating it. If I had to guess I would say the algae is producing the bubbles.

Don’t think you have dinos. Don’t add any phosphate or nitrate reducers like carbon dosing, gfo, etc. and you will likely not get them.

Looks like diatoms to me for sure..
Normal new tank look there.. It will pass in time..
Clean up crew will help too..
Cerith/Nerites,etc... will certainly tackle that in time..

Thanks for the info, the only supplements I added were Kent Marine Nano Reef buffer as well as NovAqua Plus Water Conditioner. Ill refrain from those and see how it goes.

If it were my tank, I would only do 10% weekly water changes and add rodi for evaporative losses. That’s it. After you get some coral, start monitoring alkalinity (Hanna checker or salifert kits) to decide on when or if you need add any supplements. Good luck!

Why water conditioner? Are you not using rodi water? If you aren't using rodi that would be a part of your problem along with it being a new system
