Algae during cycle - help

I added water and Fritz Zyme turbo start 2/22/20. On 3/13/20 I realized I didn’t have an ammonia source (newbie duh) so I added a frozen shrimp and another bottle of Fritz Zyme.

On 3/15/20 I started getting a lot of algae. The shrimp is still in the tank. I turned off the light cycle. I have been testing NH3, NO2, and NO3. Everything is zero.

I have not installed my skimmer or algae reactor yet. Should I take the shrimp out? Why haven’t I gotten an ammonia spike yet? How do I get this algae under control?

With all the bacteria in a bottle you used, you may not see an ammonia spike. But, you should start to see nitrates showing up. Give the shrimp some time to decompose.

The lights being on is what gave you the algae. Don't worry about it. You still need some algae for your system to mature. Just keep your lights off for the rest of the cycle. This is a good time to start quarantining a cuc... if you plan on quarantining. Otherwise, wait for the cycle ti progress and then add dinne snails later to stack the algae.

It looks kinda like diatoms imo, which is completely normal for a cycling tank. They go away on their own, they feed on silica that’s present in new tanks and once it’s consumed they die off

How long do I leave the shrimp in for?

I used RODI with two little fishies salt. All the rock was life rock. I did not use live sand. Where would the diatoms come from? Hoping it’s not an algae issue.
