my tank has been running for 1 week. Zero signs of ammonia NO2, or NO3. Today I woke up to Algae. I believe Diatom and bubble algae?

I thought this wasnt supposed to happen until after the cycle?

I do run my lights for 12 hours...is this the cause?

You will incur these algaes during a cycle and yes cut the photoperiod down. You may even want to turn lights off for several days.

Its going to happen. Diatoms and sponge growth, not going to hurt anything, just a bit unsightly is all. When the water params clear up so will the things that you won't want.
