Well today I got a giant algae explosion what are some possibilities for this?

water chages and figuring out what caused it, do you have any idea why you have an algae explosion all of a sudden?

do you have macro algea? perhaps it went sexual?

and do a water change for sure like 15-20% if its really bad

Not really sure ever since I got my corals it kinda just poped up. I think i was the lights cause i never really had a problem with algae. and no i dont have macro algae. What should i be checking in water parameters?

magnesium. i know if the magnesium is low that the algaes will thrive. trying raising you mag if its low.

well i would say to buy a magnesium test. and i use tropic marrin bio-magnesium (its a powder that you use x amount of scoops of to your sump and stir it around to mix) to up my magnesium. but i wouldnt be using an additive til you bought a test kit to check your levels.

the corals are a extra bio-load. they are now putting more waste into the water, esspecially if u are feeding them. test for nitrates and phosphates those are the most common things to cause algea. also try doing a 20% water change. you should also do water changes every other week. if feeding alot try cutting back some.

ill post a pic later looking for batteries lol.
I leave my lights on for 12 hours ill cut back on it though. No i feed like once a day every 2 days.
