Hello reef peeps. So I have a quick question. I've recently ran into a dictoya problem in my reef tank. No matter how many times I clean off my rocks the stuff grows back. I run a bioreactor and phosgaurd. I recently added more bio pellets thinkin a little more would do the trick but upon doing so my monti plates got that fun cream color they get from the water being to clean. I removed the extra that I added to get my colors back. The only thing I've added as of late is upping my mag level which seem to add fuel to the dictoya growth. I used mag chloride. My tank is very stable and I dose two part daily and mag is supplemented through the auto top off. I feed rinsed mysis every other day to my five fish. The tank is fifty gallon. Phosphates read 0 with a salifert tester. I've read Algae fix can wipe this stuff out but I'm not sure about dosing it into my sps tank. Anyone have success with this stuff in an sps dominant tank. This stuff is the only problem I have.

I've used the algae fix on my sps Dom tank....the lps seem to be much more irritated by the chemical...but I didn't lose a single coral from dosing it. Make sure you are ready for waterchanges....I think 20% a day after day 1 is recommended ...I can't remember...I just used the directions on the bottle.

I have used algae fix in the past and never had a problem with it.

I have also fought dictyota before and know what you are facing. I ended up tearing a 50 gallon SPS tank down because of this vile weed. Like you I had no luck starving it out by reducing nutrients or manually harvesting it. Any little piece that broke off while trying to harvest it would land somewhere else, take root and start growing with a vengeance.

I am not sure if the algae fix will work against this stuff, but it might be worth a try. I used it in one of my very first tanks to fight hair algae and it worked great for that. No SPS in that tank though. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
