Hey guys,

I’ve noticed an algae bloom the last few weeks and want to know if it’s my tank doing it’s thing or something I should be concerned about.

I have a 3 month old 55 gallon tank with 2 maroon clownfish, a yellowheaded sleeper goby, 5 hermit crabs and 7 snails (mix of astrea and trochus). No live rock or sand, fish and inverts only.

I’m using LFS water for water changes and found out they use Red Sea salt and RODI water to mix their own.

My parameters after the water change are

pH: 8
Ammonia: 0
NO2: 0
NO3: 25
Phosphate: 2
Salinity: 30 ppt
Temp: 77.8F

Attached are pictures of the red and green growth. What should I do?

Looks like cyano that is coming which is normal for an new tank. I would remove what you can right now but let it go. With the cyano l would increase the flow and I would also consider the water source and mixing your own water. The best equipment to have is an rodi unit of your own so you know exactly what you are getting. I’ve heard stories of lfs that doesn’t test for their rodi water to make sure it’s 0tds.
