Relatively new tank (about 3 months in), and I am noticing some green colored algae growth on my carib sea liferock. I have tried to brush some of it off with a soft toothbrush, and while some of the algae was removed, a good portion remained. All water parameters are in check, all livestock and soft corals seem happy. Any idea or thoughts on what type of algae this is? Any tips on how (or if) I should try to remove the algae growth manually? I have attached a couple pictures to help show the algae growth. Thanks for the help.

You are going to get some algae growth. It's normal and healthy for the tank. That's what a clean up crew is for, to eat the algae. Your tank is still new and I would be more worried if you didn't have algae growing.

Algae uses silica to grow that’s just your normal everyday algae growth but if you get rid of the silica they can’t grow can’t feed and it goes away you can use a poly filter to help get rid of the silica

If you want to get rid of it

You will probably realize in the future that your diatom growth (brown algae) will completely take over your tank

I had diatoms for a couple weeks. Got turbo snails an they got it cleaned up in a couple days. Also added a tomini tang an he went crazy on it.

Yes I have turbo snails to they just don’t get the rock well so today we had to scrub it I used it have a coral beauty and kept the lawn mowed until it sided and it grew back

I used caribsea and live rock in my build. 30lbs each. The caribsea got this dark green/brown algae on it around month 2. The live rock did not get any. The caribsea had this algae for about 2 months. Once coralline took off it slowly dissapeard and is completely gone now at 6 months. Here is a before and after pic.
