Hey guys! It's been about 5 days since first starting this tank up and I've noticed some algae growth on the sand bed. Can anyone tell me what kind of algae this is? I'm not sure they're diatoms because they're kind of fuzzy, they have a height and they seem to only grow on the larger pieces of sand. All help is greatly appreciated.

Doesn't look like anything too weird. I would get some more snails in there.

Yeah, it's the real reef live rock, why?
Then it's proablay actually cycled and processing ammonia.

If it were dry there would be no bacteria , but it its live and alreat cured it is cycled or cycling to be more exact.
It's referred to as a skip cycle.

Just check your nitrites and ammonia. With live rock it's just a bit of dieoff that is the concern

Yeah I would just like to grow the nitrifying bacteria population before I put anything in, just to keep safe.

Agreed best to wait and let it settle But def test.
Keep in mind there is bacteria in and on the rock already because it's live already. The sand is also already live unless it was dry sand.
