hey all,

So its hard to see whats going on in the pictures so i'll try my best to explain. I have a clear-ish film spot that is growing and is now on two places. It almost looks like a really dense spiderweb. It's like a clear coating on some rocks. I am not sure if it's the start of some type of algae or what but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

It might some type of fungus or bacterial mat, as opposed to algae or perhaps a sponge. If the tank is fairly new it should run it's course given time, but definitely keep an eye on it. GL.

agreed. many colonial organisms start out as mats and films as they either gain mass and take over vital space or become the consumed by the greater hunter who in time wins out on a turf war. it literally is one of those three above imo, and could easily be a mix of groups duking it out.

Looks like sponge to me. The photos aren't terribly clear but it appears that there are several oscula on the surface. I don't think you need to worry about these, most aquarists like them because they add color and texture to the rock. If they do get out of control then you can cut back on feeding the tank ava make sure your top off water is free of silicates. There are also a few nudibranchs or fish that might help control it.
