Anybody have any idea what this algae is? I have some green hair algae for sure but I’m confused on the brown, I was told by my lfs that it’s Cyanobacteria

If po4 or no3 is zero or both zero, most probably is dinoflagellates

Looks like GHA and dino combined. Scrape, siphon up, do water change and see if it returns and how soon.
Reduce white light intensity a little also. Do not add any NoPox or coral foods such as Reef Roids at this time

Hmmm that’s what I was kind of fearing. During the day it will cover the sand bed, but recently it has gotten spotty, is that good?

wich of the nutrients is low in your tank?

Thank you for the reply, I’ve been battling this for a while now and water changes seem to make it worse, I’m wondering if the low nutrients are making it thrive?

Both phosphate and nitrate are low
Let them go up po4 to minimum 0.03 and no3 to 5.

As for your GHA problem all you need to do is let the bacteria in your tank stabilise and get some snails on it or if to bad a sea hare. Reducing nutrients will bring you more bad than good, once your tank gets stable you won’t see algae.

Thank you for the tips and you’re time!

Low nutrients can but its more affiliated with water quality, light and inorganics pointing to filtration, and water movement also
