I've recently cleared my tank of GHA using Vibrant, which I'm still dosing. But now as soon as that has finally vanished, this new algae has sprung up! Which is perplexing, as for one I'm still dosing the Vibrant, and secondly the nutrients in the tank are so low I have to dose Nitrate to get it up to around 3ppm. PO4 is 0.02 ppm. Nitrate tests as zero within 24 hours if I don't dose.

This new algae is similar to the GHA, but it's much thicker and not at all slimy. It feels sort of like noodles. It's a bit like chaeto, but not quite as wiry, and you can feel it crunch between your fingers when you squeeze it. It pulls off at the base generally. Is it just a different type of GHA? It's only growing in limited areas, most rocks are still completely free of it, but where it starts, it takes off.

For comparison, below is a shot of the GHA when it ruled the tank -

It's not a huge problem at the moment, I've just pulled most of it out, but I'm curious to know what it is, and why it's defying the Vibrant, which has cleared both the GHA and turf algae from the tank.

Cheers
Michael

Looks like a strain of bryopsis. I will let someone who knows better tell you for sure.
