Hey all,

So I did a 72 hour blackout to control some algae, mainly some cyano (I think) on the sandbed and diatoms. Tank looked new afterwards. In the few days since the lights have been back on this algae appeared all over the back of the glass. It has bubbles. Dino? Sand looks fine. Thanks!

Very possible, I had a dino outbreak and the entire back of my glass turned into a fuzzy forest. Can you provide a better picture? Best case scenario if it is dinos... manually remove as much as you can, don't want to do any water changes (negative effect regarding dinos), and black out your tank for a few more days.

Thanks, I can't get another pic right now, I removed a lot of it and it hasn't grown back yet. On second thought I'm not sure if the bubble were from the algae or from bubble produced when my pump was sucking air for a bit so I'll keep an eye on that. It looks like a bunch of little tufts.

How often can I do blackouts without harming coral?

Not sure on the blackouts but if you've left the lights on for a few days i would assume you could black it out for a few more. I blacked mine out for 2 days, did just blue actinics a days, dinos came back, so i blacked out for 2 more days, 2 days of just blue actinics, then 100% a day later and it killed it all. Mine started out as little tufts as well, and eventually took over the entire back glass.
