I was given some algae to start out a refugium which appears to be a species of caulerpa? Wondering if this is a little risky to use in my refugium with the thought that its could escape to my display tank or do you basically run the same risk with chateo as well so its a non-issue? Any thoughts on this algae to use as a safe refugium species appreciated.

I am not sure what type of algae that is. It looks nice though. From what I understand, if it is caulerpa. You can run the fuge light 24 hours to prevent it from going sexual.

Thanks for your reply, I noticed that seems to be the case and I just spoke with the person I got the algae from and they run their fuge 24/7 so I think I'll be doing that too.

Looks like Caulerpa Prolifera and a couple Caulerpa Serrulata

I think your right, I was looking at it this evening and its got blades that are both smooth and serrated like both species you mentioned. As nice looking as it easy I wondering if it might be wise to ditch it for some chateo.
