So I noticed in the last couple of days I had this algae in my hob overflow and now a little is starting to form on my glass.. Please help me control this awful stuff.. The tank has been up for about 3 months.. I have 7 snails 2 blue and 2 red crabs.. One clown blenny, 2 premium snowflake clowns, 1 baby oselaris <--(sp may not be correct)clown one damsel, a Hawaiian feather duster.. Just purchased 3 peppermint shrimp and two cleaner shrimp and a salt flat foot crab.. I have a skimmer but only had for about a week due two purchasing two used and they didn't work. Now I have a new one.. A 75 gallon with a sump not sure how big it is. I noticed two days ago as well that my temp was spiking to 86 degrees at night with lights on so I purchased two fans and placed a ice water bottle in sump and now it is maintaining its level at 78-80 degrees.. Maybe that's what started this.. Now how do I stop it... I read up on some algae but I can't tell which one I'm dealing with.. As some looks like hair and but tiny. And others looks like brown spots.. The hairy looking stuff is in overflow only right now (first picture)

New tank? Phosphate numbers?
Looks like your everyday run of the mil algae. In your case thats where alot of light and nutrients run through the system, and it accumulates right there

It could be new tank.. It seems it would have started before now but who knows. I have another set up that never had this problem. By the way this is a 75g and I have no idea what the phosphates are.. So now how do I get rid of it or control it

GFO, Seachem, SeaKlear. Any number of phsophate removers. Remove the overflow, paint the front facing black, that will stop the light from letting it grow on the inside.

Thank you @twilliard and @Reefing Madness SOOO much for your replies! Before work yesterday I drove an hour (only quality saltwater supply store in my area) and purchased, seachem phosbond, seachem Matrix (Enough for my tank size) and bought 4 media bags. I placed the entire contents of the phosgaurd into a bag and in three bags I divided up the matrix. When I got home last night I removed the overflow and tube and cleaned it real good.. Turned my sump off and vacuumed all of the water out.. Took all of the bio balls out and placed in a garbage bag.. Took the trickle tray and rinsed the media off.. Placed the matrix in the clean area where the bio balls used to be and poured dr tims over them.. Placed the media tray down along with the media is where I put the phosbond at.. Turned everything back on and used a magnet to clean the glass.. And turned the lights off. The owner suggested I do this along with a 3 day black out.. And on day 4 introduce light for two hours and then day 5, 4 hours.. Day 6, 6 hours and day 7 back to 8 hours a day. I also bought 21 small snails(can't remember the names but 7 were one species, 7 another and 7 another) and removed two turbo snails because I had seven and was told that was to many. I will get the names of the snails I purchased and post later..

The snails I purchased were
7-Asterea snails
7-Trochus snails
7-Nassarius snails
And now I have

5-Turbo Snails instead of 7

May be a dumb issue to bring up but do you use RODI?

Reason being...I did at first and had that exact algae. Wouldnt let up. Then I switched and I havent seen it since. My water was loaded with silicated/phosphates.

I also had diatoms and hair algae building up on my powerheads-getting rid of the silicates/phos made a world of difference.

@ahiggins thats not a dumb question.. I actually do not. I had problems with another tank and velvet so I spent a ton so far to get rid of that.. This tank did start with ro/di water and salt already mixed from my lfs.. And when I cleaned everything I topped off with the same water from lfs.. So I haven't used tap water other than to clean with.. If I do a small top off I will add distilled water until I get a ro/di..

☺️ When I first started, I was like pfft a special water!?
From what I've read, distilled isn't that great either? Maybe someone else can chime in on that point.
All I know is going to rodi it solved all my algae problems.

Great lol.. Yea I have got to get one lol

No 3 day black out, don't do that just for the algae in the overflow. If your worried that much, paint the thing black, you will not get anymore algae growing in it. Its growing now, basically because of all the light hitting it, and nutrients, you remove the light, and it doesn't grow.
Snails are a good idea, but you don't want them getting into the overflow, so they aren't really going to help there.

Oh to the snail note, I put two or three (and two hermits) in my "sump" lol its an aio but still, they took care of the algae growing on the floor and sides
