This just showed up over the past week. I cannot scrub it off with a toothbrush.

Is it on the sand?

No, none at all. What is odd is that it is also in a few low light areas. It seems like cyano but the cyano I’ve always had could be removed with a toothbrush. And it would be on the sand.

I was thinking briopsys or Dino’s, that’s why I was asking if it’s on the sand.

It started because the pump on my reactors failed and I didn’t notice. Nitrate went up to 25. I need to pickup a new phosphate test tomorrow.
Thanks for trying to find it. I can’t find photos of anything similar.

I found something close, but it’s also got bubble algaein it too. Dino’s come in many forms and colors, except most will not be green since they mostly don’t have any chloroplasts in them. From what am reading, diatoms is a form of Dino, but goes away quickly with water changes. Can you give some specifics on your setup? Water test results? When’s the last water change?

125 gallons, 55 gallon sump, 4 years old. Nitrates are usually 5 but now 25. I need a new phosphate test kit. 1.026. Lighting is 6 bulb t5 which are due to be changed in 2 months. Full lighting is from 1pm to 8pm. 2 bulbs simulate sunrise and sunset for 2 hours. It has been run that way for 3 years.

I run gfo and carbon when the pump works. The skimmer makes nice skimmate.

The color of the algae under daylight is dark purple/black.

Last water change was a month ago. I usually i them every 2 weeks. That plus the pump failure was not good.
