Algae ID plz

My dad set up a new 90g tank and plumbed it into an existing system that has been set up for about 3 years. He used dry rock and got a typical algae outbreak as the tank cycled but the algae he has been getting is something I have never seen before and was wondering if anyone knew what it is. It is fairly rigid and grows in ribbons and does not come off of the rock very easily even if you scrub it with a brush. Here are a couple pics:

It looks exactly like the algae that was growing on his algae scrubber. Anyone know what it is and the best way to treat it. Being a new tank he took the rocks out and placed them in a brute trash can with a powerhead. After a week it was still green and seemingly healthy, although I was able to scrape some off at that point.

Can algae from an algae scrubber spread to your main display? Any help or info would be appreciated.
 
everyone will throw in a prediction here

mine is, 3 days after the first spot treatment heh the test rock algae dies, see pest algae challenge thread below. anything green and leafy like that is wimpy to the juice
