Appears to be a Valonia sp. It could maaaaaybe be a Neomeris (which is calcareous) with that shape, but I'd def lean to it being some kind of Valonia bubble algae.

With either type, the cure is getting nutrients low and manually removing it. Very little eats neomeris due to its calcareous nature. Very little also eats bubble algae just due to it being somewhat hard to eat with its smooth ridgid walls. If it's a bubble, emerald crabs or certain herbivorous fishes (foxfaces and rabbitfish) may help but it's not a guarantee.

What are your nitrate and phosphate levels

Whatever it was ...Bubble, Neomeris ...my new Purple Tang cleaned the entire ugly infestation in one day.

Thanks to Goriya my new Tang.

Sid
