Algae ID .....round bright green cells

@taricha or anyone have any idea about this green algae. I have been running in to it a lot with other folks tanks and have had it in the past myself. It usually is on the sand bed primarily and often is associated with red cyano (but not always). In my tank it eventually responded to manual removal and balancing NO3 and PO4.

It seems to be getting more common in the hobby. Any help appreciated.

Looks like cyano but not positive
Do you pics under white lights of the algae in the tank?
 
is it easily removed by suction turkey baster etc?
(I usually lean toward a cyano for oddballs like this, because it's so ridiculously diverese. Regardless of the role, there's a type of cyanobacteria that's well suited to it.)
