Reefing Team,

Need some help with this algae. I did a water change last week and changed out my sponge on my JBJ and its gone down hill ever since! What am I working with here and how can I get this turned around?!? All corals are retracted and inverts are dying left and right.. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its a JBJ 24 Nano, I have a frag rack with a mix of some Soft corals and lps and sps. Tank has been running about 10 months now. I switched out about a month ago to a intank filter system, with the 1 chamber , filter floss, 2nd chamber with purigen and chemipure and the 3rd housing some biomedia. Last night I ran nirate and phos last night using a API kit and Nirate was undetectable and phos was at .25. Salinity was at 1.026 on the refractometer.

Looks like dinos, but could be wrong, if have a microscope would be able to make definite ID. But regardless of type the 0 nitrate is a probable cause.
Also why your zoas are closed up. If its a softie or mixed reef tank i would get nitrate up to 5-10ppm. And ditch the API phosphate test kit for a hanna checker, red sea or nyos. Most likely the phosphate will fall to sub .1 levels after nitrate is steady. But make sure doesnt fall to zero.

If this came on all of a sudden. I’m kinda thinking “mini cycle” . Or just stirred up a lot of funk.

If it’s new I’d highly Reccomend getting ready for some scrubbing and water changes as a first course of action.

Scrub, next day water change and floss change.
Do try perhaps doing the wc from the chambers in the back of the aio. Mine always got filled with funk.

Also what salt mix are you using ?
