This pic is not from my tank but this is the same exact algae that I have been battling for about 2 weeks. Growing mostly on my substrate but a little on my LR as well. Has killed a few of my zoa colonies, can anyone ID please? Thanks in advance
I'm thinking it's diatoms, been looking up dinoflagellates & that doesn't seem to be what it is(I don't think). My tank has been up & running going on 5 years. What happened was I ordered some emerald crabs online because I was noticing some hair algae that my turbo's weren't keeping up with. I ordered a pack of 8 off ebay because the price was good. When they arrived some of them were giant so I tossed 'em in my sump(where my macro is).....well a week or so later I looked in my sump & no macro! There was a tiny amount left & all 5 of the crabs were huddled around it munching away! Pretty sure that's what started it cause a day or two later I noticed algae growing & it has gotten worse. I have been doing large H2O changes & reduced my feeding big time just to temporarily reduce nutrients. I also added 2 different species of caulerpa in my sump/fuge(both of which are growing well)& I also stepped up my CUC. My next step is 3 days lights out which I have done in the past but I'm hesitant to do now because I have some zoas/palys that were affected by this algae growth which are finally starting to "wake up" if you will & I don't want to send them the other way by doing lights out....definitely getting frustrated! It has gotten better so I'm going to do 1 more large H2O change & see where I'm at.
İ went through diatom bloom while cycling.. Everything was brown and not too pretty...
İn about 5-6 days it all went away, but now im battling bubble algea... Yuck!!!! İ bought a few emerald crabs, aperantly they live the bubbles. So far they are in hidind..lol
Just when I thought it was getting better it got worse. So I did a 15gallon H2O change and starting a 3 days lights out. I'll do another 10 galllon H2O change on Friday when I turn my lights back on....hopefully this does it.
