Hey folks,

Looking for an ID and possible treatment of this unwanted algae. It's deep red/maroon and growing on top of my coralline algae. It's tough, but will peel off with a blade, but a toothbrush does nothing. Sections of it grow into semi circle leaves, but not initially. Those form after a certain mass is achieved.

It's growing slowly, but now it's starting to impede on my joes rainbow frag. I also now see 2 other quarter size growths on other sections of my rock work. I'd like to get on top of this. It came in on a frag plug.

Note, I have no other algae issues. I have no other visible algae in my tank or connected fuge (macros) or frag tank.

Sorry for the crappy cell Picts, but the first is a distance shot showing the approximate 6" x 6" area it is covering and then followed by a closeup.

Any help is appreciated!!

Regards,
Mike

I'm thinking lobophora.

The good news is it thrives in healthy, clean chemistry stable water. Good in that means I have healthy, clean, chemistry stable water. The bad news is it's hard to combat.

Anyone have experience with it?

Lobophora. Naso tangs will eat it if your tank is big. Otherwise not much touches it. On the bright side, I never had huge problems when I had it. It would come and go but was never a big problem. Eventually coraline overtook it and it went away. It isn't the worst algae to have.

Thanks, but the fact that it has cropped up in 2 other spots has me concerned. I'll go the naso as a last resort. My tank a 150 so I'm on the small side for one one it matures.

Anyone have any luck spot treating? Kalc paste, hydrogen peroxide it other?
