Thank you in advance but Can anyone id this algae, it came in on a couple of corals, plus im having a few problems with this red on my sand bed and rocks its like powder to touch with stringy bits coming of it,.

No image available.:)
Sound like Cyanobacteria, need an image for the corals that came in with growth, a coral should never arrive with an obvious algae growth.

I use photobucket, it's free. Upload image from your lap top or pc or phone, copy and paste IMG code into your post.

Hi thanx for replying, yes it is cyano and other one is a harmless algae, in process of treating tank now, again thankyou.

I get it periodically. I try to catch it right away so it doesn't become a huge problem. One of the downfalls of reefing.

I no, I havnt got much of it thankfully just siphoning it out now, will keep on top of it an do plenty of water changes, cut bk on feeding aswell.

Hi Susane,

Luckily Cyano is one that manual removal will help get rid of. The more you can get out manually, the better off you will be. Reducing the free nitrogen (Nitrate) in the system by cutting back things like feeding and following a regular water change schedule will help also. This is something that tends to come in waves, it will be there for a while and then go away so dont worry too much about it but do try and keep it it under control!
