Hi! Here is my tank set up and what's going on...oh, and LFS told me to let it fun its course (I'm in the ugly period)
Tank is 1 month old and just cycled.

60 gallons
pH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10-20
Salinity 1.025
Temp 78

Live rock/dry rock 50/50 with live sand.
Just got through a diatom bloom.
3 clowns fed once a day
13 snails, 8 hermits
Skimmer, Aquaclear filter and powerhead

I have algae on the tank walls...but it's pretty much leaving my rock alone.
I literally just got done with the Diatom bloom.

Just changed carbon filter and did 20% water change.

What is the algae I've got going on?

Thank you!

I also have Hydra 26 HD's on at 50% acclimation mode....my algae is also loaded with copepod type critters that my clowns love.

My snails and hermits I have are not eating this type of algae.

Crap. Picture.

Right!? I've looked everywhere on the internet and they don't look like hair algae, but kinda do...not turf algae...but kinda do. Lol. ***.

I'll look again tomorrow but if the stalks are like feathers or ferns like some seem to be in the pic it is a bryopsis. In any case try to siphon them out as you scrape them.
If you touch them And it's kinda pokey to your finger it's a calceriois algae I forget the name. It's cool grows like little soft plug cactus. I have a couple larger ones. Can't remember the name.
Algae happens so no matter what it is its best to remove during the WC. Nutrients light etc. are not to blame. algae happens. It's there because its introduced into the tank and it's best to just remove.

Unless you like that kind of thing. And in fact. Sometimes I do.

Does it help to say the root system is suuuuper shallow? Even in my sand bed. And it hasn't really touched my rock...nothing on live, very few on my dry.

I am leaning towards Byropsis as well.
