I apologize if this is a common problem but I’m a rookie in this hobby and My research has found no results. I have a 50 gallon frag tank up and running for approx 5 months. I have a sump and I’m currently running filter socks and doing weekly water changes. I have a skimmer I’m placing online tomorrow. This algae started appearing 3 weeks ago and is making my zoas unhappy

The green algae?
Yes. I do have trace amounts of coralline coming in but this green algae is creating a thin covering on my pukani dry rock. I cured it for 4 months in darkness prior to placing it in the tank

The green stuff just looks like the normal processes starting to happen. You’ll get a significant amount of algae on your rocks then in about 6 months you should be clean again.

It's hard to tell from the photo, bit if it's green hair algae, that will overgrow and choke out zoas. It's happened to several plugs of mine.

The good news is that zoas react favorably to a hydrogen peroxide dip, moreso than many other corals. Mix a cup of half tank water and half 3% hydrogen peroxide and drop the frag into it for up to 2 minutes. The algae will immediately begin bubbling and melting away. Then remove and return to the DT. I don't even rinse mine first - a little H2O2 returned back to the tank won't hurt anything.

The zoas will close up and pout for a day or two, but then they'll open back up to a sparkling clean, algae free plug.

Thank you all. My rodi is reading 3 tds. Not sure if this is the cause for my new algae but I’ve replaced my filters and my future water changes will be reading 0. No matter how much i research and prepare, paranoia sets in when I see any algae at all lol. Definitely trying that dip since I’ve heard of others success with it as well. Thank you.
