Any ideas as to this algae? It is red with long strings, 1-2 cm. No bubbles and not snotty so I'm hopeful it's not dino

Hard to give a positive ID but it could be a sort of macro or the beginning of Bryopsis.

I think you'll need to pluck some and get it under a microscope (any microscope, even a toy works) for a chance at positive ID.

Do you at least have it under control? :)

It is under control at the moment. I gave it a good clean and a 72hr blackout which has knocked it back completely. We will see if I get a recurrence. Nitrates and phosphates are low and under control.

Is it only on eggcrate? Some eggcrate leaches phosphates and encourages algae growths... Looks like new eggcrate so that made mention about this, sorry can't help with ID.
